Professor and Head Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications Texas A&M University
 Texas A&M University invites applications for the position of Professor and Head of the Department of Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications (ALEC). This will be a 9-month tenured position, with a substantial research appointment (25-50%), and an administrative stipend. The administrative stipend and two additional months of salary will be effective for as long the person holds the position of Department Head.
 
The Professor and Head will serve as the chief administrative officer of the Department and as an advocate for the disciplines that it represents. The Head reports to the Vice Chancellor and Dean of the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences, Texas A&M University, College Station. The position provides leadership and support for numerous faculty initiatives, including enhancing and expanding undergraduate and graduate education; increasing contributions to knowledge and science through extramurally-funded research; fostering collegiality and interdisciplinary collaboration among faculty; conducting extension and outreach programs; strengthening relationships with diverse stakeholder groups; and promoting communication of science-based findings to inform public policy and private decision makers.
 
Candidates for the Professor and Department Head position must have an earned doctorate and have a record of academic accomplishment that would qualify them for tenure. Candidates with ongoing active research programs, interest in continuing active scholarship, and experience in academic administration are encouraged to apply. They are to provide evidence of visionary leadership, innovative thinking, and the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students, representing them to University administrators, state and federal agencies, industry, and the public. A commitment to working cooperatively within a multidisciplinary and multicultural community of scholars and educators is essential. A record of success in securing grant funding and program support is also highly desired.
 
An ideal candidate will have an internationally-recognized research program, a demonstrated commitment to undergraduate and graduate education and extension/outreach, significant administrative experience and visionary leadership experience. The position requires a Ph.D. in social or behavioral sciences with a record of distinction in research, teaching, and service.
 
ALEC is one of 14 academic departments in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. The Department has four bachelor’s, two master’s, and one doctoral degree programs with an approximate enrollment of 1,300 undergraduates and 150 graduate students. ALEC includes the Organizational Development Unit of Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service supporting 500+ county Extension agents and 200 specialists in 250 county offices and 13 regional Research and Extension Centers statewide.
