Vice President for Development

The Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU) Foundation, one of the largest public university foundations in the Northwest with more than $1 billion in total assets, is seeking a strategic and mission-based executive who will lead and manage the foundation’s development programs. Located in Portland, the OHSU Foundation supports Oregon’s only academic health center. Working closely with the foundation president, the senior leadership team, and the leadership at OHSU and Doernbecher Children’s Hospital, the Vice President for Development shall develop and implement strategic philanthropic initiatives, and lead and guide a sophisticated and high- performing fundraising team.

Reporting to the foundation president, the Vice President for Development shall lead and coordinate all development activities in alignment with the broader institutional priorities established by the foundation president and the foundation’s Board of Trustees. These activities will include planning, implementing and managing a strategic and comprehensive development program; establishing fundraising goals and clearly defined metrics; guiding cultivation, solicitation and stewardship strategies; updating the board on fundraising progress; liaising with OHSU leadership and scientists; and supervising a team of development professionals.

Additionally, the vice president will be expected to actively manage his/her own donor portfolio; and advance the productive, collaborative and professional culture at the foundation.

Qualified candidates will have major fundraising experience; an inspirational and entrepreneurial leadership style; personal commitment to advancing cutting-edge medical research; proven ability in building and supporting diverse and collaborative teams; experience functioning effectively within a large, complex organization; a strong ethic of accountability; and a track record of leading high-performing teams. Candidates with relevant experience at an academic health center strongly preferred.
