Job Description

The School of Visual Arts and Design (SVAD) at the University of Central Florida (UCF) invites applications for an assistant professor in the area of Architecture. The successful candidate will a) deliver courses at the undergraduate level that inspire majors in Architectural Design, Topics in Digital Media and Architectural Theory; b) conduct scholarly research and service; c) interact with the community of practicing architects in Central Florida; d) collaborate with colleagues from Valencia College, the University of Florida and other partners; and e) maintain regular office hours.

 

This is a nine-month, full-time, tenure-earning assistant professor position that will teach a three-course load per semester. UCF supports and rewards teaching excellence. Faculty are expected to participate in department and university service including committee work. UCF offers an undergraduate Bachelor of Design degree in Architecture. The School of Visual Arts & Design is a large diverse unit with approximately 1,700 majors and minors in the following areas of study: animation, architecture, art history, photography, graphic design, emerging media, and studio art. UCF offers the following degrees: Architecture (B. Des.). Art (B.A. and BFA), Emerging Media (B.A., BFA, and MFA), and Photography (B.S.). Position Minimum Qualifications

Master of architecture from an accredited institution. Evidence of competence with a range of materials, equipment and technologies, and effective communication skills.

 

Preferences

1. A demonstrated interest in forming partnerships with industry and within academia.

 2. A record of diverse professional and distinctive scholarly work in the field of Architecture and Design.

 3. Resourceful, collaborative, versatile thinker/producer with an emphasis on developing and teaching Design Studio courses, Digital Media, and/or Architectural Theory.

 4. Demonstrated teaching experience teaching at an institution of higher education.

The work location is on the West Valencia Campus.
