Assistant/Associate Professor of Safety Management

ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR OF SAFETY MANAGEMENT


The Safety Management (SM) program at Indiana State University invites candidates to apply for a position of Assistant/Associate Professor – 10-month, tenure track. Both the undergraduate and graduate programs are accredited by ABET and ATMAE respectively and currently has more than 200 undergraduate and graduate students and 3 tenured faculty and 1 instructor.


The Safety Management program is housed in the Department of Built Environment which was established in 2010 and is the home of four undergraduate programs: Architectural Engineering Technology, Construction Management, Interior Architectural Design, and Safety Management, and the Occupational Safety Management MA/MS.

Position Description
The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in the following three domains:
a) Teaching – in the area of (but not limited to) foundational topics of occupational safety such as industrial hygiene, hazardous material, occupational toxicology, fire protection, human factors and ergonomics, system safety analysis, safety legislation, safety programs/administration, accident prevention and more at undergraduate and graduate level both in on-campus and online format.
b) Service – as members of internal and external committees at department, college and university level, faculty advisor for student organizations, program or department representative or liaison in different committees and more. Academic and professional advising for students.
c) Research – in related topics and publish in reputable journals or conference proceedings. Apply for internal and external grants for research or other instructional activities.


Other responsibilities include (but not limited to) collaboration on program and departmental activities such as accreditation, outcome assessments, curriculum or course development, collaboration with industry partners in form of consulting, field trips, research projects, placement (students employment/internship), guest speaker and more.

The expected starting date will be in August 1, 2019.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have following qualifications:
- Doctoral degree in Safety Engineering/Management or a closely related field
- Good communication skills (oral and written)
- Experience in related field in industry – preferred
- Experience in teaching (both on-campus and online) – preferred
- Professional certification or license – preferred
