Dean – Tim and Steph Busch School of Business

Dean – Tim and Steph Busch School of Business

The Tim and Steph Busch School of Business (business.catholic.edu) seeks a new Dean to guide the next stages of its development. The position offers an opportunity to lead the School in fulfilling its broad vision of how it can serve the Church, the nation, and the world, faithful to the teaching of Jesus Christ as handed on by the Church and in accord with the University’s mission.

The Catholic University of America was founded in 1887 by the U.S. Catholic bishops and is the national university of the Church in the United States. Today the University is home to 12 schools enrolling 3300 undergraduate and 2600 graduate students. The University is located in the heart of Washington, DC, a short distance from Capitol Hill and the National Mall, and is conveniently located on Washington’s Metrorail affording easy access to the entire metro region.

The Busch School was founded in 2013 with a broad vision to completely rethink business education and the practice of business by showing that business can work for persons, and not the other way around. The School’s mission is to provide thought-leading education and scholarship informed by the Catholic principles of human dignity, solidarity, subsidiarity, and pursuit of the common good in accord with sound business ethics grounded on natural law. The School embraces Catholic social doctrine in all of its activities and seeks to help students, educators, and the business world understand how to implement it in a way that benefits business organizations, the people they employ, and society as a whole.

It is an exciting time in the School’s young history. The School occupies a newly renovated state-of-the-art 61,000 square foot facility in one of the most beautiful buildings on campus and has assembled a highly talented, motivated, and energetic faculty consisting of theoreticians and practitioners. The School has grown to represent 18% of the University’s undergraduate population, while developing innovative and forward-thinking curricula serving a broad range of students. Moreover, it has achieved unprecedented levels of giving from a broad range of constituents.

As its next dean, the Busch School of Business seeks a bold and collaborative leader with an outstanding record of accomplishment as a scholar or as a distinguished member of the business community whose background and experience demonstrate that s/he understands the roles of both scholarship and teaching to the mission of the school.  The successful candidate will effectively articulate the Busch School’s mission, build its distinctive human-centered culture, develop a strategic vision for growth,  and leverage the remarkable assets of this community of gifted students, scholars, practitioners, alumni and friends to provide the necessary resources, all while enhancing the quality of student outcomes.
