ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR IN ARCHITECTURE

COLLEGE OF ARCHITECTURE AND GRADUATE SCHOOL OF ARCHITECTURE & URBAN DESIGN

 

The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professor in the College of Architecture and Graduate School of Architecture & Urban Design with a focus on design. The faculty seeks a dynamic candidate who is committed to innovative thinking and collaboration within the multidisciplinary teaching and research context of Washington University in St. Louis and to advancing the broad conversation around design education to build on the reputation of our programs. The full-time (9-month) appointment will begin in August 2019.

 

Strong candidates for the position will demonstrate expertise in design and building technologies through a record of professional practice; specific areas of expertise may include building systems, construction processes, and/or environmental and sustainable design. Candidates should also demonstrate potential to pursue ambitious original research in building technology or a related area to contribute to the larger body of knowledge in the field. In addition, candidates should demonstrate capacity for excellence in the instruction of university-level design students.  

 

The assistant/associate professor will teach the typical load equivalent to four courses per academic year including both studio and seminar courses. Courses will include building technology as well as related areas. The person in this role will meet expectations for research and creative activity; participate in student advising and mentoring; and provide leadership to the school, university, and their field through academic and professional service.

Applicants for the position are expected to have a Master’s degree in architecture or an equivalent combination of professional degrees. Salary for the position will be commensurate with experience.
