Assistant Director Of Information Security

The Assistant Director of Information Security is a senior level technical leadership position in Computing Services and Systems Development that reports to the Chief Information Security Officer.

This position is a high-level, technical and analytical position requiring significant knowledge and hands-on experience architecting network security controls and procedures including: incident response, host-based and network-based security monitoring and intrusion detection, conducting technical vulnerability assessments, computer forensics, secure management and analysis of system and audit logs from applications, servers, and network equipment, encryption-based solutions, and advanced threat protection. The position assists the Chief Information Security Officer with responsibility for all information technology security policies, operations and security engineering to ensure IT security regulatory compliance at the University of Pittsburgh.

The incumbent will lead the development, engineering, project management and implementation of security protocols for the University and assist the Chief Information Security Officer with the supervision of security staff, leading project teams, and managing day-to-day Security operations and initiatives. The Assistant Director will lead the teams in conducting business risk assessments and recommending secure technology solutions to University departments. This individual will serve as the backup security liaison for the University 24x7x365 which includes critical security risk notification alerts for the University community.

It is vital that the individual understand the University's computing environment and the impact of decisions on production and development systems. In order to successfully meet performance standards, it is critical that the individual maintain a broad view of advancements in technology and proficiency with new technologies.

The incumbent must have at least eight years of experience, BS degree preferred, and CISSP or other similar IT security certifications. Must possess project management and leadership experience, excellent troubleshooting skills, strong communication and organizational skills, and a commitment to customer service. A significant understanding of regulatory compliance requirements such as FERPA, HIPAA, Sarbanes Oxley, etc. is also required. This position, like all Security Division personnel, are required to be available to respond to emergency security incidents on a 24/7/365 basis.
