Dean, Daniels College of Business

The University of Denver invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Daniels College of Business.

Founded in 1864, the University of Denver (DU) is an independent, doctoral granting research university with high research activity. DU is ranked among the nation’s top 100 universities, with many of its professional schools and programs ranked in the top twenty by U.S. News and World Report. Located in Denver, a city with a thriving start-up scene and a vibrant arts culture, the University enrolls over 11,600 students in its distinguished undergraduate, graduate, and professional programs. The University has become increasingly prominent nationally and internationally for its creative, 21st-century approaches to problem-based scholarship; a holistic, student-centered approach to learning; programs at the NCAA Championship level in skiing, lacrosse, hockey, soccer, gymnastics, and several other sports; and a dedication to the public good through local, national, and international partnerships. The University’s Chancellor, Rebecca Chopp, brings more than 20 years of transformational experience in higher education leadership.

Reporting directly to Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Jeremy Haefner, the Dean oversees the AACSB-accredited Daniels College of Business and serves as its chief academic and administrative officer. Approximately 1,600 undergraduate and 750 graduate students study with about 120 faculty and are supported by approximately 100 staff. One of America’s first business schools, and a pioneer in ethical pedagogy, the College of Business is named after Bill Daniels, Colorado’s legendary entrepreneur and civic leader, and the founder of the cable television industry. Daniels is a business school poised to grow in exciting and creative ways. Sitting squarely within one of the country’s fastest-growing innovation centers, with boundless opportunities to connect with sectors like technology, aviation, hospitality/tourism, and healthcare, Daniels is home to a diverse, inclusive, and collaborative community that supports intellectual curiosity and growth of students at all levels. Within the University, the next dean will find a leadership team eager to collaborate and partner on cross-disciplinary efforts that will differentiate the Daniels education further and prepare students for life after DU. The next dean will also lead the charge of expanding and deepening relationships between Daniels and leaders across sectors in Denver and the surrounding region. Furthermore, s/he will continue to promote and invest in national and international opportunities for the College.

The most qualified candidate will be a bold and collaborative leader with experience in an academic community and/or a business environment, demonstrate an ability to build relationships across organizations, value innovation, have a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion, remain student-centered in all decision-making processes, and possess a history of significant fundraising success. In addition, the successful candidate will work effectively and transparently within a shared governance culture.
