Dean of Graduate Studies

The College for Creative Studies (www.collegeforcreativestudies.edu), a nonprofit private college located in Detroit, Michigan, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of Graduate Studies. Founded in 1906 when a group of local civic leaders formed the Detroit Society of Arts and Crafts, the College educates visual artists and designers knowledgeable in varied fields, who will be leaders in creative professions that shape society and advance economic growth.  The College, authorized by the Michigan Education Department to grant Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, fosters students’ resolve to pursue excellence, act ethically, embrace their responsibilities as citizens of diverse local and global communities, and learn throughout their lives. 

 

Reporting to the Provost, the Dean of Graduate Studies oversees all activities and policies related to the graduate programs and promotes the highest standards of academic and artistic excellence.  The Dean serves as liaison between the department chairs and the Provost and is a member of the College’s leadership team.

 

The College seeks a dynamic, experienced and forward-looking, innovative individual who would welcome the challenge of taking the CCS graduate programs to the next level of excellence. Qualifications include: a terminal MFA, equivalent or higher; at least five years of administrative experience, preferably in schools of Art and Design; an excellent record of professional practice; an understanding of the history and traditions in the arts; knowledge of current trends in the arts, design, media, and research; and a commitment to arts/design education.
