OVERVIEW:

Employment Status: Full-time, "exempt" position, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).
Work Schedule: Regular Operating Hours for Administrative Offices: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., occasional early morning, evening and weekend hours may be required. As needed, travel may be required to participate in program events/activities.
Salary: Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications.

The College of Natural Sciences (CNS) is seeking an Director of Administrative Operations and Marketing. This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, fixed term administrator position reporting to the Dean of CNS. Reappointment is at the discretion of the Dean.

The Director of Administrative Operations and Marketing will work in collaboration with CSUSB Strategic Communications to develop and implement marketing and communications to enhance the College's brand image and support CSUSB strategic priorities.   The Director will also develop and disseminate central College-level marketing communications that support department-level initiatives.  Also, the Director will develop efficient operations and processes for CNS.

TYPICAL ACTIVITIES:

The Director of Administrative Operations and Marketing is a innovative leader and project-oriented marketing professional who elevates and executes the college's brand through strategic marketing and communications plans, research and creative execution. The Director of Administrative Operations and Marketing will collaborate with the CSUSB Strategic Communications and the CNS Leadership team to advance the College's recruitment, retention, student and faculty success and fundraising goals to raise the visibility of the College of Natural Sciences and the university.

Marketing Communications Planning, Brand Management, and Implementation:

  • Develop and manage dissemination of writing, editing, and/or production of materials for College and departments (e.g., monthly digital newsletter, print and digital magazine, videos, website, digital signage, press releases, fact sheets, ads, brochures, etc.). 
  • Oversee the review, consolidation, synthesis and writing about research for external audiences.
  • Design marketing materials in support of College-level events to convey a professional image for the college.
  • Develop and oversee the creation and execution of College events.
  • Stays abreast of trends in online and print marketing and media.
  • Stays up-to-date on emerging trends, strategies and technologies in marketing and communications.  
  • Work closely with the Dean and the CSUSB Strategic Communications to implement the College's marketing communications plan, and to manage the College's overall brand, including visual components and messaging.
  • Collaborate with the team to develop key messages to support the College's strategic goals and initiatives.  
  • Develop strategies to target key messages to various stakeholders internally and externally, including donors and alumni.
  • Develop communication strategies to support and drive the College's goals and priorities with external and internal audiences.
  • Work with in-house and contracted vendors and partners to develop creative concepts that reinforce the College's goals and positively influence perceptions about the College with external constituents.
  • Establish and maintains close relationships with department staff to leverage collaboration and partnership opportunities for communication efforts and to ensure synergistic, comprehensive, and consistent marketing communication activities across all units to achieve the goals associated with the College's marketing communications plan. Collaborates with unit-level staff to ensure that all marketing communications activities across the College consistently support the College's brand and image.
  • Work with the Dean and the CSUSB Strategic Communications to develop internal communication strategies and implements efforts to build a sense of community, awareness, support, and pride among internal audiences (faculty, staff, students).

Operations Management:

  • Develop efficient processes within the college
  • Collect and analyze the data to recommend efficiencies within CNS.
  • Prepare performance evaluations, progressive discipline, employee write-ups, and annual reports for the college.
  • Liaise with departments and other units for event coordination
  • Be a part of the leadership team in developing innovative strategies for achieving CNS, CSUSB and CSU strategic goals.
  • Manages student workers and contracted specialists. Provides supervision and direction for individuals, establishes goals, and communicates job expectations, assigns, reviews, corrects, and accepts work, develops a plan for corrective actions, as needed.
  • Manage team's processes and systems to streamline workflow and maximize efficiency.
  • Develops and manages marketing budget for CNS.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications or marketing.
  • At least five years of communications, marketing, writing or project management experience.

Knowledge & Abilities:

  • Demonstrated strong writing and editing, interpersonal skills, presentation skills, and marketing skills
  • Strong understanding of effective graphic design and branding principles and the use of the Internet as a communication medium
  • Proficient use of a variety of communications tools and platforms, content management systems and social media
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to interpret and explain complex information.
  • Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities in a dynamic environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity and commitment to promoting and enhancing equal opportunity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Demonstrated success and willingness to participate in a team environment.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills, including copywriting, editing and proofreading.
  • Excellent understanding of visual design.
  • Discretion and sensitivity are required.
  • Confidentiality of information is critical.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in higher education and/or complex, decentralized organizations on cross-functional teams.
  • Master's degree in journalism, communications or marketing.
  • Experience taking photos and producing videos.
  • Project management, communications and/or writing experience.
  • Familiarity with design tools (Adobe).
  • Organization and management skills.
  • Familiarity with STEM and health related fields.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
