Position Requirements: Terminal degree in music composition or relevant field (DMA or PhD), advanced degree in a relevant field, and/or equivalent professional experience required. Record of professional activity and or research/creative scholarship that demonstrates emerging or established national recognition in the fields of commercial music composition and production is paramount. Experience and a list of credits in one or more areas such as scoring film, television, webisodes, and creating soundscapes for computer games and virtual reality is a must.  A demonstrated and ongoing commitment to serving diverse student populations, and strong evidence of the ability and desire to perform service: duties include, but are not limited to, recruiting, program-building, and commitment to extra-curricular activities in the school, college, university, and community. Candidate will continue professional research/creative scholarship that is relevant to the current and future practice of composition production, and arrangement of music for a variety of industries.  Working knowledge of current practice and theory in acoustic and digital music composition, as well as sound design tools and technologies, with a vision towards future developments. Commitment to quality, student-centered education and working as a team member. Candidates who have clear potential to support scholarship by extramural funding, as appropriate to research specialization, are encouraged to apply.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Experience teaching at the university level and working with diverse student populations and first- generation students. Ability to form partnerships within and outside of the university, with the business community, regionally, nationally, and internationally. The ideal candidate will have superior knowledge and experience with current music creation and production technologies and an active record of professional achievements that includes community engagement and/or collaboration. Familiarity with current and cutting-edge practices in acoustic and digital music composition, music production and engineering, and all related technologies. Willingness to assist in development and implementation of curricula delivered via online and distance education platforms.

Position Description:

The successful candidate will:

• Demonstrate ability to teach courses in commercial composition, production, and arranging as related to the field of music, particularly, that which supports visual media such as film, television, computer gaming, virtual reality and web platforms, and other digital media for students within and outside the School; explore the potential expansion of the music theory and composition programs and their curricular offerings; continue to engage in nationally/internationally recognized creative/professional practice and/or scholarship.
• Embrace new forms of critically engaged disciplinary practice/scholarship in the evolving field of commercial music composition and production and opportunities to teach broadly across the music theory and composition curricula, and envision new ways to expand beyond them.
• Where appropriate, the potential to bring external funding to the School of Music/College.
• As a collaborative departmental citizen, actively participate in departmental, college and university service, including committee work and academic support services such as recruitment of students into the program; audition review; program review (including implementation and assessment of outcomes); help to maintain the music theory and composition areas’ standards for accreditation with NASM; and student advising across diverse communities, supervision of student organizations, and participation in sponsored off-campus activities.
• Work well with colleagues within and outside the School, particularly in building interdisciplinary collaborations.
