Marymount University (Arlington, Va.), one of the nation’s most vibrant Catholic institutions, invites applications, expressions of interest, and nominations of candidates in its search for the next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs. Marymount seeks an entrepreneurial and innovative leader to partner with the new president, Dr. Irma Becerra, the faculty, and administration to help Marymount achieve new heights of academic excellence.

Marymount University is an independent, comprehensive, coeducational Catholic university offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees in a wide range of disciplines. The University, founded in 1950 by the Religious of the Sacred Heart of Mary (RSHM), was, and remains, Virginia's only Catholic university. Marymount serves more than 3,400 undergraduate and graduate students. The next provost of Marymount University will join the institution at a time of positive momentum on all fronts. The provost will have the opportunity to advance the academic vision and growth for Marymount that is rooted in the University’s commitment to academic excellence embedded in its Catholic mission.  The provost will contribute to the next exciting chapter in Marymount’s history by working closely with President Becerra, a strong leadership team, committed faculty and staff, and a supportive community to establish an environment where strategic priorities will be achieved.

Marymount seeks an innovative and accomplished academic leader who will harness the excitement of Marymount’s distinctive mission and inspire its faculty, students, staff, alumni, and community partners to greater heights.  Marymount’s next Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs will be a servant leader with a distinguished academic record that commands the respect of the scholarly community and merits appointment as a tenured full professor at Marymount. She or he will bring significant academic administrative experience appropriate to the size and complexity of Marymount, and ideally will have a record of successful leadership during periods of significant institutional growth. The candidate should also have administrative experience with student retention strategies, student academic support services, academic facilities, budgeting and program assessment. Knowledge of information services and technology is preferred. The next provost will have a highly relational approach, outstanding communication skills, authenticity, self-confidence balanced with humility, integrity of the highest order, a strong work ethic, and a clear understanding of the modern university to her or his work.

The Marymount Provost Search Committee will evaluate the applicant pool during the winter and early spring of 2019. Candidates should submit materials as soon as possible. The new provost is expected to begin work no later than July 1, 2019.
