Performs teaching, research and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise.  Shares responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.

The Department of Natural Sciences at LaGuardia Community College seeks to fill a tenure-track faculty vacancy in Chemistry at the Assistant Professor level with an individual who possesses a firm commitment to teaching and research.

The Assistant Professor will be required to teach undergraduate courses in one or more of the following areas: Introduction to Chemistry; General Chemistry I and II; General, Organic and Biological Chemistry (for Health Science majors); as well as the associated laboratories, and other courses according to interest and need. The Assistant Professor will participate in developing new courses and improving existing curriculum to meet the growing needs of the department. Development of a viable research program and grant writing is expected. Student mentoring is an important component included in the duties performed by faculty and the successful candidate will be required to develop research programs that will involve students.

The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in departmental, school, college and university-wide activities. LaGuardia emphasizes excellent teaching in a student-focused environment. Candidates must demonstrate a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching and the ability to work with a diverse population. 

    QUALIFICATIONS 
    Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent.  Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
