Vice President of Academic Affairs Search

Lebanon Valley College (LVC) in Annville, Pa., seeks an entrepreneurial, results-oriented leader to serve as its next vice president of academic affairs (VPAA). A member of the senior team reporting to President Lewis E. Thayne, the VPAA will lead an excellent faculty in leveraging LVC’s many assets to increase the College’s educational, social, and regional impact and augment student and graduate outcomes.

Founded in 1866, Lebanon Valley College is a small, liberal arts institution committed to delivering a transformative education built on the liberal arts. Its 1, 651 full-time students are taught by 123 remarkably effective full-time faculty members across more than 40 undergraduate majors, 5 master’s programs and a doctorate. The student faculty ratio is 10:1 and the average class size is 20. The quality and effectiveness of LVC’s academic setting has produced a four-year graduation rate, 69.7% for the 2014 cohort, placing LVC among the top 10% among all U.S. colleges and universities.

The successful candidate will be an experienced higher education professional who can effectively and enthusiastically facilitate change while demonstrating the optimism and decisiveness required of a leader during times of transformation.

Foremost among the priorities for the VPAA:

  • develop and implement an academic strategy that will transform LVC into an innovative 21st-century institution
  • forge internal collaborations and external partnerships that enhance the student experience
  • secure funds and identify support for programs, centers, and other academic resources
  • ensure the quality and effectiveness of academic programs through systemic and regular assessment
  • serve as an advocate for effective shared governance principles, policies, and practices
  • collaborate with key stakeholders—especially the faculty—to achieve these goals
