President

Bringing the lessons of the American free enterprise society into the college classroom to more than 4,200 students, Northwood University seeks a new president to join the campus community who is entrepreneurial, innovative and will ensure the continuation and acceleration of Northwood's upward trajectory.

In 1959, Dr. Arthur E. Turner and Dr. R. Gary Stauffer broke from their careers in a traditional college structure to create a new concept in university education where the teaching of management led the way. As the world around them was rapidly changing, Stauffer and Turner understood that all endeavors – technical, manufacturing, marketing, retail, every type of business – needed state-of-the-art, ethics-driven management. Time has validated the success of what these two young educators called the “Northwood Idea" – incorporating the lessons of the American free enterprise society into the college classroom.

Since then, the university has grown and matured, expanding its curriculum and student body while continuing to espouse the same ideals of Stauffer and Turner and never wavering from its core values. Accredited through the Higher Learning Commission, Northwood Institute transitioned to Northwood University in 1993, the same year the DeVos Graduate School of Management was created and then progressively expanded. The Adult Degree Program and its program centers thrive in 20 locations in eight states; international program centers exist in Malaysia, People's Republic of China, Sri Lanka, and Switzerland; and significant construction projects like the campus Student Life Centers adds value to Northwood students' experience. Endeavors such as Aftermarket Studies, Cyber Security and Data Analytics, along with a Hospitality Management partnership in Montreux, Switzerland, demonstrate an enriched experience for all our students.

With a clearly articulated mission to develop the future leaders of a global, free enterprise society, Northwood University educates managers and entrepreneurs who are highly skilled, ethical leaders and exceptionally prepared to enter the workforce. With more than 57,000 alumni living, working and enriching communities throughout the world the Northwood Idea is alive and well.

Northwood University seeks a leader who will galvanize stakeholders around a compelling vision for the future and will be fully committed to business and professional education. The incoming president will build strong, productive and long-lasting relationships with current and future donors, alumni, friends, community members and industry that lead to new revenue streams and external resource support for the campus. The president will drive the refinement and elevation of the Northwood brand, will be well versed in enrollment management trends and strategies that will help grow Northwood's enrollments, and should have a strong grasp of the current market for innovative academic programs that will make a strategic impact.

Additionally, the president will be excited to promote a strong and positive institutional culture rooted in its mission and invigorated by collaborative leadership.

Northwood University's next president will be an engaged, collaborative and entrepreneurial leader with superior relationship building and communication skills, including the ability to speak genuinely, persuasively and energetically about the Northwood Idea. The president will work in close partnership with a distinguished faculty, dedicated staff and talented students to magnify Northwood's commitment to academic and co-curricular excellence while also promoting a culture of transparency and collaboration. In addition to encouraging traditional academic applicants, Northwood University is also interested in assessing interest from non-traditional candidates who are passionate and creative in their education of ethical managers and entrepreneurs and have a demonstrated record of accomplishment in executive leadership, specific accomplishments in change management, organizational and professional development and strategic planning.

Confidential review of applications, nominations and expressions of interest are invited. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by January 25, 2019. Candidates should provide a curriculum vitae or professional resume and a letter of application that addresses the responsibilities and requirements described in this leadership profile. These materials should be sent electronically to Northwood University's consultants, Ann Yates and Jen Meyers Pickard, Ph.D. at NorthwoodUniversityPresident@wittkieffer. The consultants can be reached through the desk of Shalonda Alleyne at 630-575-6157.
