Department Summary:
The Department of Movement Arts, Health Promotion and Leisure Studies (MAHPLS) promotes the acquisition of and application of knowledge for diverse populations in human movement (sport, fitness/exercise, dance), teaching physical education, health education/promotion, recreation, coaching, and athletic training.

 

 

The department prepares athletic trainers, educators in health, physical education, and adapted physical education, coaches, and fitness and recreation leaders who can provide qualified leadership in their respective fields and enhance quality of life by encouraging commitment to healthy lifestyle choices.

Essential Duties:
1. Teach Biomechanics courses to students in athletic training, exercise science/health fitness, motor development therapy/adapted physical education, physical education (PreK-12), recreation, recreation and fitness club administration concentrations
2. Teach a variety of discipline specific content courses in biomechanics and labs, anatomy and other related areas
3. Mentor and advise students
4. Maintain sports biomechanics research
5. Provide service to the University and the community.

Required Qualifications:
• Earned doctorate in Applied Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Physical Education or related field with a concentration in Biomechanics (ABD candidates will be considered. Degree must be conferred by September 1, 2019)
• Experience teaching Biomechanics Lecture and Laboratory Activities
• Demonstrated engagement of sports biomechanics research publications and/or presentations
• Experience using Biomechanics instruments (e.g.Vicon motion capture system, AMTI force plate, or EMG)
• Applicants should be strongly committed to excellence in teaching and advising and to working in a multicultural environment that fosters diversity. Applicants should also have an ability to use technology effectively in their discipline, the ability to work collaboratively, and the ability to conduct scholarly activity.

Preferred Qualifications:
• An active member of biomechanics-related professional organizations (e.g., ASB, ISBS, ISB, ACSM, etc.)
• Computer programming skills (i.e. Matlab)
• Demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring undergraduate and graduate students
• Demonstrated outstanding leadership, organizational and communication skills
• ACSM, NSCA or equivalency certification
• Demonstrated independent research
• Demonstrated record of external funding or business partnerships
