Associate Vice Chancellor/Associate Vice President for International Affairs

Indiana University invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Vice Chancellor/Associate Vice President for International Affairs (AVC/AVP). Possessing reporting lines to both the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and the Vice President for International Affairs for Indiana University, the next AVC/AVP is the senior international officer for IUPUI and contributes significantly to international strategy for IU as a whole.

Building on IUPUI’s significant accomplishments and history of commitment to international engagement, the next AVC/AVP will provide the strategic vision and collaborative leadership skills needed to further IUPUI’s role as a dynamic leader in international research, teaching, and engagement, as well as global learning and internationalization within the US, Indiana, and Indianapolis. IUPUI received the prestigious Heiskell Award for Innovation in International Education in 2009 and the Senator Paul Simon Award for Comprehensive Internationalization in 2011.

The successful candidate will have strong leadership, administrative, and budgetary skills, with the ability to think strategically and, working with many different constituent groups, develop a shared vision. Catalyzing international research and educational programs are a central feature of the position, requiring the ability to work across multiple academic disciplines and colleges and excellent intercultural communication and interpersonal skills. The AVC/AVP will have visibility with the international academic community, and experience working with on- and off-campus programs. Experience living and/or working outside the United States is desirable. S/he will have an interest in and capacity for fundraising; an entrepreneurial spirit; and be able to develop public and private partnerships. The AVC/AVP will possess an earned doctorate and exhibit a record of achievement appropriate for appointment as a tenured professor at IUPUI, and administrative leadership of a sizable academic services unit.

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) serves as an intercultural and global partner and catalyst in stimulating and supporting an international dimension across all of the university’s missions and throughout all administrative units, per the campus’s strategic plan. The Office of International Affairs works with people and organizations on campus, in Indianapolis, and throughout the world to: graduate IUPUI students able to operate in a globalized world with skill, wisdom, and responsibility; facilitate international engagement and partnerships; recruit and enroll international students; provide transition support, expert advising, and visa services for international students and scholars; oversee study abroad activities; support international teaching and learning; and increase intercultural understanding through events and programs.
