Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment
Dakota State University invites applications for a 12-month position as Director of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment. The Director will provide leadership and coordination of the University’s assessment efforts, including development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation for major program and general education assessment. This position works directly with faculty, staff, and administration across the campus to advance the University’s Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) initiatives and helps ensure that programs assess authentic achievements and that assessments yield meaningful results that lead to program improvement. This position will provide training for faculty and academic staff on planning and assessment. As the coordinator of Continuous Quality Improvement, this position organizes CQI events including CQI Day and Campus Connections as well as assisting employees as they develop continuous quality improvement projects. Additionally, this position will serve as the University liaison to HLC and will select, collect, develop, and organize appropriate supporting documentation for HLC accreditation. This position reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs.
The Director oversees and provides direction for day-to-day operations of the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Assessment, which includes Academic Assessment, Testing Services, and Institutional Effectiveness. Additional responsibilities include managing faculty evaluations and reporting processes, including statistical analyses using SAS, and other duties as assigned by the VPAA. The Director assists with interpreting institutional data and presents to internal and external constituencies.
Minimum qualifications include a Master’s degree from an accredited college or university in an appropriate discipline/field (e.g., assessment and program evaluation, educational research, educational psychology, higher education administration, statistics) as well as excellent oral and written communication skills and an awareness of fostering an institution-wide culture and commitment to assessment and quality improvement. The successful candidate will champion assessment for all academic programs and general education within the university. Demonstrated knowledge of best practices, current research, and innovations in assessment in higher education is a plus. The successful candidate will have the ability to organize work and be detail oriented.
Preferred qualifications include prior experience working in higher education assessment including student learning outcomes assessment, quantitative and quantitative research methodologies, curriculum mapping software, and statistical software literacy. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a collaborative and transparent manner as well as knowledge of and experience with Higher Learning Commission accreditation will be a plus.
