Assistant Professor (Remote Sensing)

The Department of Economics and Geosciences at the United States Air Force Academy anticipates filling a position at the rank of Assistant Professor of Geosciences, beginning approximately June 24, 2019. Applicants will be assessed based on education, evidence of teaching effectiveness, scholarly activities, and service to the discipline and institution. Essential qualities expected of every faculty member include the personal attributes of integrity, industry, cooperation, initiative, and breadth of intellectual interests.

Preference is given to applicants who have expertise incorporating Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (sUAS) with remote sensing technology. Successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to provide excellent instruction and mentorship at the undergraduate level, and interface with program strengths in human geography, physical geography, GIS, and remote sensing.

Responsibilities include: teaching introductory and advanced undergraduate courses in Remote Sensing, and other courses in the program as needed; academic advising; serving as a faculty mentor for undergraduate research; serving on departmental and Academy committees; and maintaining a record of research commensurate with academic rank. Candidates must have earned Doctorate degree in Geography or a related field, or letter of completion by June 24, 2019.

The United States Air Force Academy, located just north of Colorado Springs, Colorado, awards the Bachelor of Science degree as part of its mission to educate, train, and inspire men and women to become officers of character, motivated to lead the United States Air Force in service to our nation. The initial appointment is for three years. Successive reappointments of up to four years will be based upon an assessment of performance, Air Force and departmental needs, and funding availability.
