Assistant Professor in Epidemiology

Microbiology:  Assistant Professor (tenure-track) in Epidemiology to teach undergraduate and graduate courses in epidemiology and introductory microbiology; develop an externally funded research program (laboratory or field based); advise students; and provide service to the university.  Position begins August 2019.

Require: Doctoral in Epidemiology or related field by date of appointment.

Consideration may be given to those candidates with evidence of past research accomplishments with a strong potential to obtain extramural funding; background in infectious disease epidemiology or public health experience; the ability to achieve excellence in teaching and mentoring; and a willingness to contribute to curricular development.

The Department of Microbiology (http://microbiology.miamioh.edu/) has 16 faculty and instructional staff, and approximately 25 graduate students and 200 undergraduate majors.  Research programs are supported by state-of-the-art facilities in the Center for Analytics and Data Science, Center for Bioinformatics and Genomics, the Center for Advanced Microscopy and Imaging, and laboratories with advanced biophysical instrumentation.

Faculty in the department involve undergraduate and graduate student in their research programs; achieve an excellent record of publication in peer-reviewed journals; and collaborate on research projects with colleagues in Microbiology, as well as in other departments at Miami University, including Statistics and the Center for Statistics and Data Science, Computer Science and Software Engineering, Gerontology and the Scripps Gerontology Center, Anthropology, Kinesiology and Health, and Biology. There are also possibilities to partner with local hospitals and clinics, and the Butler County Department of Health. Finally, the multi-ethnic population of Butler and Hamilton Counties provides rich opportunities to conduct community-engaged research with diverse and often underserved populations.
