- University of Southern California
- Los Angeles, CA
The University of Southern California (USC) seeks an outstanding academic leader to serve as dean of its highly regarded and innovative USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work.
Continuously ranked among the top schools of social work in the nation, the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work has a broad and distinguished faculty known for the strength of its commitment to teaching, and to developing the next generation of social work leaders. The school contributes cutting-edge research across a range of areas including aging, artificial intelligence, behavioral health, child trauma, child welfare, crisis and bereavement, diversity and inclusion, homelessness, human trafficking, management and organizations, serious mental illness, school violence, substance abuse, social determinants of health, social adaptation to climate change and man-made disasters, and veterans and military families. The school includes 3,200 graduate students and 162 full-time and 374 part-time faculty across four departments: adult mental health and wellness; social change and innovation; children, youth and families; and nursing.
Joining USC at a moment of considerable transition and opportunity both for the university and for the school of social work, the new dean will step into a school of abundant strengths that is eager to welcome new and strong leadership. This is not a status quo position; the new dean will be asked to build on a school known for innovation and for shaping the profession and expand on its mission in order to propel it to a place of even greater impact in Southern California and across the nation.
Reporting to the provost and senior vice president for academic affairs, the next dean will be a visionary scholar with impeccable credentials to lead the school into the future. The successful candidate will have a record of instruction, scholarship and research excellence that merits appointment as a tenured full professor in one of the departments of the school. The new dean will also have a history of administrative leadership and strong human resource and financial management experience, as well as the capacity to raise funds and friends on behalf of the school.
Inquiries, nominations and applications are invited. For fullest consideration, applicant materials should be received by no later than January 7, 2019. Candidates should provide, as two separate documents, a curriculum vitae and a letter of application that addresses the themes and responsibilities described in the leadership profile found at www.wittkieffer.com. These materials should be sent electronically via e-mail to the University of Southern California’s consultants Robin Mamlet, Robert Luke and Christine Pendleton at USCDeanSSW@wittkieffer.com.
