The CAHNRS mission is to contribute to improving the quality of life for the people of Washington state and the world. WSU and CAHNRS are the research and development arm of the country's second-most diverse agricultural economy, helping Washington sustainably produce and market more than 300 different agricultural commodities. CAHNRS is a leading driver of WSU research, contributing more than 31% of the University's extramural funding budget. The University is consistently ranked in the top five in U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) research funding. CAHNRS hosts several plant breeding programs that have developed significantly improved crop varieties, including the Cosmic Crisp apple, which now stands as the University's top source of licensing revenue.
As a member of the University's leadership team, the Dean of CAHNRS reports directly to the Provost and Executive Vice President, T. Chris Riley-Tillman. The Dean will be responsible for budgetary oversight, academic program development, research support, Extension activities, faculty recruitment and retention, philanthropic engagement, vision setting, and strategic planning for CAHNRS. The Dean will nurture interdisciplinary partnerships within CAHNRS and across the University and cultivate relationships with state and federal agencies, tribal communities, industry leaders, and community partners.
