Dean, College of Arts and Sciences

The University of New England (UNE) seeks applications, inquiries and nominations for the next dean, College of Arts and Sciences (CAS). The new dean of CAS will shape the implementation of a new strategic plan under President James Herbert and Provost Josh Hamilton, building on the College's and University's strong foundation while seeking opportunities for new programs, innovation in classroom pedagogy and experiential learning, and interdisciplinary programs across the university.

UNE is a comprehensive private university that has particular strengths in the health professions, neurosciences, and marine programs. UNE currently enrolls approximately 2,400 undergraduate students and 2,000 graduate and professional students in its face-to-face programs, and 4,000 fully online students. UNE has two principal campuses, in coastal Biddeford, Maine and Portland, Maine, as well as a UNE campus in Tangier, Morocco for students studying abroad (among other international sites). It is the largest private university in Maine and is nationally ranked by Forbes Magazine, Money magazine, U.S. News & World Report and the Princeton Review as one of the country’s best colleges and universities.

CAS is one of five campus-based colleges of the university that also includes the Westbrook College of Health Professions (WCHP), the College of Osteopathic Medicine (COM), the College of Dental Medicine (CDM) and the College of Pharmacy (COP). UNE also has the College of Graduate and Professional Studies (CGPS) that delivers the UNE Online curriculum. CAS and WCHP together encompass the undergraduate majors and minors at UNE, as well as a number of master’s and doctoral graduate programs.

The successful candidate will bring a strong record of scholarship, a demonstrated commitment to education, strong management and operational experience and the interpersonal and relationship-building skills to help UNE and CAS realize its strategic goals.
