St. John’s University invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the School of Education. The Dean of the School of Education provides visionary and strategic leadership to the School’s four departments: Administrative and Instructional Leadership, Counselor Education, Curriculum and Instruction, and Education Specialties.

Established in 1870, St. John’s University has three New York City campuses; a graduate center in Hauppauge, NY; international locations in Rome, Italy; Limerick, Ireland; and Paris, France; and study abroad locations around the world. The Princeton Review and other top rankings consistently recognize the University’s outstanding academics, diverse student body, dynamic internship and volunteer opportunities, focus on student life, and array of study abroad offerings.

The School of Education was established in 1908 as the School of Pedagogy and was only the second school in New York State to award graduate degrees to teachers. Renamed in 1955, the School is now home to approximately 1,800 undergraduate and graduate students, and has locations throughout the New York metropolitan area. The School is committed to preparing teachers at the undergraduate (B.S. Ed.), master’s (M.S.Ed.), and doctoral (Ed.D. and Ph.D.) levels, offering more than 40 degree programs as well as certificate programs in the areas of education and human services.

The successful candidate will be a proven leader, teacher and scholar with at least five years of progressive academic leadership or equivalent experience who has achieved success in developing and executing academic strategies in a complex, comprehensive University. The new dean will also be a person of intellectual vitality with a Ph.D., Ed.D. or other terminal degree commensurate with the rank of Professor.
