The Department of Psychology at Oklahoma State University seeks a dynamic and visionary leader for the position of Department Head.  Reporting to the Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, the Department Head will advance the department’s mission of excellence in research, teaching, and service.

 

The Department Head will provide strategic direction and foster leadership for the unit’s impressive growth in graduate and undergraduate programs. The Department Head will serve as a key contributor, guiding growth and continuing innovation in line with the university and college strategic plans. The successful candidate will have administrative experience, a proven record of fostering academic excellence in research and educational initiatives, a clear commitment to promoting a culture of collaboration within the Department, and an interest in engaging in transdisciplinary initiatives across the OSU system.

 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Department, including budgetary oversight and resource allocation, maintaining competitive and innovative academic programs, and successfully facilitating faculty recruitment, retention, and development.
  • Promote excellence in undergraduate and graduate education, focusing on improving educational outcomes, student success, and workforce readiness.
  • Facilitate research, scholarship, and competitive grant funding initiatives by department faculty and students.
  • Enhance the Department's visibility and reputation through effective communication with key stakeholders, including college and university-level administrators, unit faculty and staff, students, alums, and donors.
  • Support the University's land-grant mission by promoting community and industry partnerships and disseminating knowledge.

 

Required Qualifications

  • A Ph.D. in Psychology or a closely related field.
  • A distinguished record of research, teaching, and service that qualifies for a tenured appointment at the rank of Full professor.
  • Demonstrated academic and administrative experience, including leadership, management, and budgetary oversight.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and collaborative skills.
