Associate Provost for Research and Sponsored Projects

The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs Administration (ORSPA) partners with faculty and staff to provide the highest quality research administration at all stages of sponsored projects. The ORSPA performs a number of critical functions to advance objectives. These include overseeing the following, but are not limited to: funding opportunities, internal research support, proposal development, pre- and post-award, human subjects – IRB, compliance, and intellectual property.
The ORSPA pre-award services are designed to assist researchers in facilitating the overall proposal process while balancing the need for institutional and sponsor regulatory compliance. The ORSPA assists university investigators in identifying funding opportunities; proposal development; budget preparation; reviewing proposals for compliance to the funding opportunity announcement; ensuring institutional approval for proposals; conforming to federal, state, private and university regulations; and proposal submission.
The Associate Provost for Research and Sponsored Projects (APRSS) is responsible for building and maintaining relationships with faculty, deans, and stakeholders in federal, industrial, and institutional environments; providing leadership in promoting the visibility of the university’s research efforts, as well as in developing and expanding research programs and services; and providing mentorship and oversight of the units that report to the associate provost, including effective supervision of unit leaders. Required qualifications include an earned doctoral degree from an accredited institution; a successful record of research and scholarship that would support the rank of tenured professor according to established university criteria; and senior-level leadership as a department chair, dean, or director of a research center or institute; or significant research experience with a national laboratory, or other private/public sector organization.
