Assistant Professor in Music Composition and Theory

ANNOUNCES A TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION
MUSIC COMPOSITION & MUSIC THEORY
RANK/SALARY: Assistant Professor, tenure-track. Salary commensurate with candidate’s credentials and experience.
DUTIES: (1) Maintain a notable, visible professional career as composer that indicates continuing growth and national/international visibility; (2) teach undergraduate and graduate composition, and related courses in support of the needs of the School of Music; (3) teach undergraduate and graduate courses in music theory according to curricular needs and the candidate's abilities/expertise (these potentially include graduate seminars in analysis and theory, as well as various undergraduate theory courses typically offered in art music curricula); (4) supervise undergraduate final projects, and graduate theses and dissertations; (5) recruit and advise undergraduate and graduate composition majors; (6) contribute to the coordination and advancement of the core music theory curriculum and the composition curriculum; (7) participate on committees, including doctoral committees; and (8) perform other appropriate college, university, and professional service. QUALIFICATIONS: (1) Earned doctorate in composition (ABD candidates may apply if they can, on request, provide clear documentation that their doctorate will be completed by July 1, 2019); (2) teaching experience in music theory at the college level; (3) excellent classroom keyboard skills; (4) recognition that music is a vital, changing and diverse practice. The School is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM) and it has over 400 majors. Faculty members in the School of Music are a distinguished group of approximately 90 performers, educators, scholars, conductors, and composers. Students in the School of Music earn BA, BM, MA, MM, DMA, and PhD degrees in fields that include conducting, composition, jazz studies, music education, music theory, musicology, and performance.
