DESCRIPTION The Department of Asian Languages & Cultures (http://www.alc.ucla.edu/) at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), invites applications for a position in Japanese Cinema at the rank of tenure-track assistant professor. This appointment will begin on July 1, 2019.

We seek a scholar whose research and teaching interests center on Japanese cinema, and who can engage with existing departmental strengths in other intellectual and/or geographical areas across East or Southeast Asia. Special consideration will be given to applicants whose training or research combines film studies with fields such as media studies, popular culture, and/or literary studies. A demonstrated commitment to cultivating relationships with scholars and institutions in Japan will weigh strongly in an applicant’s favor, as will experience organizing academic and cultural programming and an openness to collaborating with colleagues both within the department and across the UCLA campus.

The successful candidate will be expected to sustain an active research and publication schedule, teach both undergraduate and graduate courses, provide service to the department and campus, and demonstrate a lasting commitment to diversity-related teaching, research, and/or service.
