The dean, nationally recognized within the engineering community, is responsible for advancing excellence by establishing a vision for the college, leading the development of strategies and action plans to achieve that vision, and generating internal and external support. The dean also is expected to be a leader in attracting and retaining excellent and diverse faculty, staff, and students and to build collaborative, long-term, strategic relationships with leaders in the business, engineering, and academic communities, as well as with faculty, staff, students, and other academic units within the university. The selected candidate will hold the James and Katherine Melsa Professorship in Engineering.
Candidates must have a doctoral or equivalent appropriate advanced degree and demonstrated credentials to be tenurable at the rank of full professor in a department of the College of Engineering; significant leadership experience in education, industry, or government; a commitment to excellence in engineering research and education; a proven commitment to achieving and nurturing a diverse and inclusive environment where all members feel empowered to collaborate and contribute to the advancement of shared goals; outstanding communication and consensus-building skills; the ability to develop and sustain collegial, inclusive and productive relationships with on- and off-campus constituencies and funding sources; an understanding of emerging trends and initiatives in engineering education, research, and practice; and an appreciation for multidisciplinary collaboration. Licensure as a professional engineer; experience with engineering practice in the private or public sector; and enthusiasm for professionalism, economic development, program advancement, and fund raising are desired.
