Binghamton University, one of four research universities in the State University of New York System, invites nominations and expressions of interest in the position of Founding Director of Speech Language Pathology.
A vibrant public research university, which is consistently ranked among the top 40 public universities in the nation by U.S. News & World Report, Binghamton continues to improve the quality of both undergraduate and graduate education by seeking to vigorously support the scholarly, creative, and research endeavors of its faculty. Under the University’s strategic plan, Roadmap to Premier, health sciences has been identified as one of five areas of focus stimulating transdisciplinary research (visit https://www.binghamton.edu/transdisciplinary-areas-of-excellence/) and offers fertile opportunities for faculty to collaborate with highly productive faculty colleagues across an array of disciplines and to engage in the development of a PhD program in health sciences.
The campus is nestled in the rolling hills of the Southern Tier in upstate New York on 930 acres. In 2020, the Decker School of Nursing will expand into a new College of Nursing and Health Sciences and will join the University's School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences on an 8-acre Health Sciences Campus in Johnson City, NY. The new College will reside in a 90,000-square-foot former Endicott Johnson Corp. shoe and carton factory currently undergoing a complete renovation to include a new Regional Simulation Center, modern health science classrooms and learning laboratories, and Information Commons. The new therapy programs will have about 15,000-square-feet of space in the renovated building.
Through a generous $1.5 million donation, the Decker School is working with community healthcare partners to create the Ford Family Senior Clinic that will expand current geriatric services to include integrated primary care, assessing mental, functional and environmental status, case management, and student education. The clinic's services may be expanded with the addition of new therapy programs, providing opportunities for faculty and student clinical practice. Also located in the Decker School of Nursing is the Kresge Center for Nursing Research and the Simulation and Practice Center which is accredited by the Society for Simulation and Healthcare. There is a strong commitment to interprofessional education and collaboration through sharing skills and knowledge to improve quality of care and health outcomes.
The University is seeking a driven, innovative, and experienced leader to develop curriculum, lead the process of obtaining accreditation by the Council on Academic Accreditation in Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology, hire faculty, and matriculate its first class. The Founding Director will report to the Dean of the Decker School of Nursing, which is slated to become the College of Nursing and Health Sciences. Consultants for the University have developed an initial roadmap for the speech language program. The Founding Director will assume leadership for the development and implementation of the initial planning and will clearly articulate a shared vision for the future of the program with both internal and external constituents and partners. With the opening of a new facility, the director will have the opportunity to create and develop floor space, including simulation laboratories and care clinics.
