The Media Lab and the Program in Media Arts and Sciences (MAS) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Cambridge, Massachusetts invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant or Associate Professor level in the areas of "Cultivating Creativity, Constructionist Learning, and/or Human Flourishing”, at the intersection of the fields of Engineering, Design, Cognitive Science, Education, and the Arts. Anticipated start date is July 1, 2025 or by arrangement. We welcome outstanding applicants with research and teaching interests aligned with the Media Lab mission to create transformative technologies, experiences, and systems that enable people to reimagine and redesign their lives. MAS and the MIT Media Lab (ML) believe the intellectual, cultural and social diversity of our faculty, staff, and students is vitally important to the distinction and excellence of our academic and research programs. We seek candidates who support our institutional commitment to ensuring that MIT is inclusive, equitable, and diverse. The appointment will be at the assistant or untenured associate professor level.

 

Faculty duties will include teaching courses at both the graduate and undergraduate levels in topics related to Media Arts and Sciences, conducting original scholarly research in related topics, running a research group, supervising and mentoring graduate students, and playing an active role in shaping the culture of MAS and the Media Lab.

 

Candidates should have a strong record of research, a willingness to take risks, a desire to look beyond traditional disciplines, and a dedication to making a difference in the world. Applicants should hold a terminal degree such as a doctoral degree in media arts and sciences, computer science, engineering, education, art/design (such as MFA or MArch) or a related field by the start of employment and should have a track record in the relevant research community as well as developing significant and substantial creative tools and/or expressive experiences in their field.

Each application should include the names and addresses of three or more individuals who will provide letters of recommendation. Applications will be considered complete only when both the applicant materials and at least three letters of recommendation are received
