DON B. HUNTLEY COLLEGE OF AGRICULTURE

 

 

The College one of four colleges of agriculture in the California State University (CSU) system and the only one located in Southern California.  It is the sole provider of comprehensive agricultural programs focusing on the needs of the $1 trillion Southern California economy and its 21 million people. The College aims to be a national leader in urban and sustainable agriculture. The College provides a unique integrative approach to agriculture-related undergraduate and graduate programs that recognizes the strong disciplinary interdependencies of professional orientation and culture, basic societal needs, lifestyles, and social and environmental responsibility.

 

Reporting to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean leads a college  team consisting of an Associate Dean, five Department Chairs, staff, tenure track and temporary faculty, and an annual state budget of approximately $7 million with additional grants and enterprise revenue. This includes management/oversight of the Agribusiness & Food Industry Management/Agricultural Science, Animal and Veterinary Sciences, Apparel Merchandising and Management, Nutrition and Food Science, and Plant Science departments, the College Farm (Pine Tree Ranch, Chino Farm, livestock units, field labs), the W. K. Kellogg Arabian Horse Center, AGRIscapes and Norco Ranch.

 

The Dean will be an inspiring and innovative leader who will foster an environment conducive to academic quality, collegiality, creativity, open discussion, and an appreciation for ethnic, cultural, and social diversity.  The Dean promotes collaboration, team building, and active involvement with the faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the community. The next Dean will develop a vision for the college with a comprehensive understanding of and appreciation for the breadth of 21st century agriculture and closely related fields.

Cal Poly Pomona is one of two polytechnic universities in the 23-campus CSU System, and one of only a few such institutions nationally.  Located 30 miles east of Los Angeles, the University is in one of the most dynamic economic and cultural regions of the country.
