Assistant Professor, Statistical Information

The Faculty of Information and the Department of Statistical Sciences in the Faculty of Arts & Science at the University of Toronto invites applications for a joint (51% Statistical Sciences, 49% Faculty of Information) full time tenure-stream position in the area of Statistical Information. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor with an expected start date of July 1, 2019.

Applicants must have earned a PhD in Statistical Science or a closely related field by the time of appointment, or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and strengthen the existing strengths of the Department of Statistical Sciences and the Faculty of Information.

We are seeking candidates that demonstrate excellence in working across disciplines. We are particularly interested in research that focuses on replicability issues in science, data science, data privacy and ethics, topic models and network analysis. Candidates must provide evidence of research excellence as demonstrated by a record of publications in top ranked and field-relevant academic journals or forthcoming publications meeting high international standards, the submitted research statement, invited presentations at top international conferences, research awards and accolades, and strong endorsements by referees of the high standing. Evidence for excellence in teaching is based on strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier containing a strong statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, teaching accomplishments and accolades and teaching evaluations.

Salary is competitive with our North American peers and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
