Assistant Professor of English

The University of Arizona’s Department of English invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position to begin Fall 2019.  We seek a specialist in British Literature of the Long 18th Century with an active research agenda in the period. The successful candidate will be expected to design and teach specialized graduate and undergraduate courses in their field of research as well as undergraduate surveys and other courses that cover the canonical texts and genres (poetry, drama, satire, prose) in the period.

The successful candidate will also be expected to teach two courses per semester, maintain an active program of research in the period, and perform service to the department, university, and profession.  A Ph.D. in English awarded by 15 August 2019 is required.

The University of Arizona has been recognized as an Hispanic Serving Institution and, together with the Department of English, has a strong commitment to diversity. The successful candidate must be able to work with students, faculty, and staff from a wide range of social and cultural backgrounds; individuals from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply.

First consideration will be given to applications received by 10 November 2018. Later applications may be considered on a case by case basis. Given the cost to applicants of travel to MLA, preliminary interviews will be conducted via Skype.   We will request interviews by December 10, and hope to have campus visits from finalists early in January.

Please send a letter of application, c.v., three current letters of recommendation, and a writing sample no later than 10 November 2018.
