Mount Saint Mary's University (The Mount), the only women's university in Los Angeles and one of the most diverse in the nation, seeks an experienced, highly collaborative, and entrepreneurial leader to serve as its next Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs (Provost). Reporting directly to President Ann McElaney-Johnson , the new Provost will be joining the university at an exciting time as The Mount embarks on new, innovative endeavors as it approaches its next centennial in 2025. The Provost will be joining a university community ready to define its next chapter in support of its social justice mission and to make a positive impact on the world.

Founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondelet in 1925, and guided by a firm commitment to the institutional mission to educate a diverse student body, The Mount is known nationally for its commitment to the Liberal Arts, research on gender equity, its innovative health and science programs, and its commitment to community service and global justice. It provides year-round, flexible, in-person and online programs at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and serves approximately 2,300 students, including approximately 600 graduate students. The Mount has 122 full-time faculty, 323 part-time instructors, and Academic Affairs employs approximately 100 staff members. It is a Hispanic-Serving Institution and an Asian American Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution and is recognized by US News and World Report as the top institution in the Western region for social mobility.

The women's college is housed predominantly at the Chalon Campus, while just 16 miles away near downtown Los Angeles, the Doheny Campus is home to gender-inclusive degree programs through the Weekend/Evening & Online College and 11 graduate degree programs. The Chalon campus is in the Brentwood neighborhood overlooking the Santa Monica Mountains and Pacific Ocean; the Doheny campus is centrally located to all that downtown Los Angeles has to offer. The Mount also has a Hollywood Studio across the street from the TCL Chinese Theatre that houses their film programs.

The Provost will be joining The Mount community at a significant inflection point. They recently embarked on evaluating multiple dimensions of their work, and after multiple external reviews and the compilation of extensive data, the university is ready to evolve to best respond to student and workforce needs. As the Mount continues to recruit and retain a highly diverse student body that is prepared to make a positive impact on the world, it is striving to be a responsive and nimble university that can remain competitive in a changing higher education landscape for a more sustainable future. The Provost will have the opportunity to join a highly collegial, dedicated, collaborative, mission-oriented, and student-centered Cabinet , faculty, and staff to help guide the institution into its next centennial by addressing the following opportunities and challenges:
  • Inspire The Mount community around a new academic vision and strategy in alignment with the mission and values of the university, as they embark on their next centennial
  • Working in partnership with faculty, refine and augment programming to best serve the mission and continued financial stability of The Mount
  • Determine the appropriate academic administration structure for efficiencies, effectiveness, and decision-making
  • Thoughtfully steward resources through strategic budget management and resource generation
The anticipated hiring range for this role is $250,000-$280,000. This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other organizational needs. Salary offers are determined based on the final candidate's qualifications and experience.
