Bellarmine University

Louisville, Kentucky

Bellarmine University seeks a visionary, innovative, and experienced academic leader to serve as its next Provost. Founded in 1950, Bellarmine is the premier independent Catholic university in the South and the leading private university in Kentucky. It has consistently been recognized by U.S. News & World Report, Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, and others for its high academic quality, dedicated faculty, and excellent value, and for the earning power of its graduates. The University seeks to instill a commitment to lifelong education, worthy of its namesake, Saint Robert Bellarmine, and of his invitation to learn and live in veritatis amore—in the love of truth. With approximately 2,500 undergraduate students, 800 graduate students, seven academic colleges and schools, numerous centers, and more than 70 academic programs, Bellarmine combines the intensity and student-centered focus of a liberal arts college with the sweep of a comprehensive university. Recent growth in professional and graduate programs and the recognition of academic excellence indicate areas of distinction and further development for Bellarmine.

In 2017 Dr. Susan M. Donovan took the helm of Bellarmine, as its first female president. Under her leadership, the University has undertaken a strategic planning process that will guide and inform Bellarmine’s future as an innovative liberal arts institution meeting the demands of its students and serving the needs of a changing world. Building on a 68-year foundation of abiding collegiality and a rich tradition of Catholic educational values, Bellarmine now aims to leverage its strengths to develop academic programs that are innovative and cutting-edge; reach new populations of students; lead in consideration and treatment of issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion; and attain greater visibility regionally and nationally.

The next Provost will join Bellarmine at this pivotal moment. Reporting to the President, the Provost will have the opportunity to work with colleagues across campus to shape an institution that is poised for greater impact. The Provost will serve as a champion of Bellarmine’s faculty and staff members, demonstrating a leadership style that is energetic, positive, and engaged. This individual will possess the knowledge and experience to develop successful strategies and tactics that strengthen academic programs, their delivery, and their impact. The successful candidate will be resourceful, imaginative, and forward-thinking, with a record of collaborative academic and administrative oversight. An earned doctorate or other terminal degree is required, as is a record of scholarship and teaching commensurate with appointment to the rank of full professor.
