Assistant Professor of Creative Writing and American Indian Studies

The Department of English and the Graduate Interdisciplinary Program in American Indian Studies invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position in Creative Writing (preferred focus in poetry) and American Indian Studies, beginning in Fall 2019.

This hire will be expected to design and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in English and the American Indian Studies GIDP, to advise theses and (potentially) dissertations, to maintain an active research profile, and to engage with students through the curriculum and outside the classroom.

The University of Arizona was the first university to offer the MA as well as the PhD in American Indian Studies. The Department of English and the American Indian Studies department and GIDP are dedicated to supporting creative and critical work that demonstrates a broad understanding and appreciation of the knowledges and expressions of Indigenous peoples.

Requirements: terminal degree in creative writing, or the equivalent; a strong and active research program that is reflected in an excellent publication record, including at least one book published or under contract; evidence or promise of teaching excellence.

If selected for an initial interview (via Skype or phone), candidates will be asked to submit a teaching portfolio and three letters of reference. We will begin reviewing applicants on November 15th.

Though our primary interest is in hiring a poet, we also welcome applicants with primary or secondary specializations in other genres.
