Vice Provost for Research

 

The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) seeks applications for the position of Vice Provost for Research. This leadership role offers an opportunity to drive innovation at an urban R1 research institution in the vibrant and diverse city of Milwaukee. The ideal candidate will be a creative, entrepreneurial, and visionary leader who can inspire faculty scholarship and strengthen connections with surrounding communities. With a strong cadre of leading researchers and unique research initiatives, there is significant potential to enhance interdisciplinary research, forge new partnerships to elevate UWM's research identity, increase support for student and faculty research, and develop a strategic plan to enhance the institution's national research profile.

 

The Vice Provost for Research provides strategic direction, oversight, and support for UWM’s research enterprise. The Vice Provost plays a pivotal role in advancing the university's research agenda, fostering innovation, and promoting scholarly and artistic excellence across all disciplines. The Vice Provost works collaboratively within a shared governance environment, oversees campus-level research policies and infrastructure, and leads campus research planning efforts. The Vice Provost must demonstrate a personal commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and leverage the position’s authority and influence to foster a vibrant community of scholars. The Vice Provost reports to the Provost and serves on the Chancellor’s Cabinet.

 

The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience advancing research at an access, community engaged and R1 institution; track record of fostering inclusive environments; demonstrated success with making significant improvements in advancing research, scholarship and/or creative activities; strong leadership skills with the ability to motivate stakeholders and guide teams toward shared institutional goals; excellent writing and presentation skills; demonstrated skills in strategic thinking with the ability to create and asses long-term plans; and strong relationship building skills and emotional intelligence to foster collaborative relationships.
