Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs

VICE CHANCELLOR FOR STUDENT AFFAIRS

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University (N.C. A&T) is a public, doctoral research, land-grant institution, and has been the largest historically Black university in the country for the past decade. With an enrollment of more than 14,000 students in the fall of 2024, the university offers 59 undergraduate degree programs, 35 master’s programs, and 11 doctoral programs. It is America’s top producer of Black graduates in Engineering and Agricultural Science bachelor’s programs, as well as a top five producer in numerous additional disciplines.

Nationally recognized for its leadership and excellence in STEM education and research, North Carolina A&T is classified as an “R2-High Research Activity” in the Carnegie Classifications. It also holds Carnegie’s earned credential in Community Engagement and the Association of Public and Land-Grant Universities (APLU) Innovation and Economic Prosperity designation. With an annual economic impact of $2.4 billion, N.C. A&T plays a vital role as a higher-education economic driver in North Carolina’s Piedmont Triad region and across a state that is ranked No. 1 in the nation as “best for business” by the CNBC financial network.

N.C. A&T has grown steadily and substantially over the past decade, expanding its enrollment by nearly 3,300 students, its annual research and sponsored program awards by $85 million, and further developing its academic enterprise. Guided by a succession of visionary strategic plans, the university has relentlessly pursued and achieved ambitious goals on its path to creating a new model of what a 21st-century, HBCU land-grant research university can be. Its current plan, Preeminence 2030: North Carolina A&T Blueprint, was approved by the Board of Trustees in February 2023 and will help build a significantly larger research enterprise and economic footprint and strengthen student outcomes over the next seven years.

The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs (VCSA) will join N.C. A&T at a time of great promise and vibrant, community-engaged collaboration around enhancing the student experience. The VCSA leads all aspects of student life that enrich and promote the intellectual and personal growth of all students at the University. A member of the Chancellor’s Cabinet, the VCSA oversees all departments within the Student Affairs division, assumes all budgetary and strategic planning goals related to the development and support of student life programming, and develops relevant policies and practices that ensure student well-being and development. The Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs will partner with other campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students and bring a data-informed, systems approach that will promote student success, bolster student retention and graduation, and expand post-graduate opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have several years of experience as an executive-level student affairs professional and will hold an advanced degree. A highly visible, personable, and responsive leader who values collaboration with colleagues and across divisions, the next Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs should have good insight into the best ways of serving students that are positioned for optimal success in the future.
