Professor of Foundation Studies

SCAD Savannah seeks a full-time Professor of Foundation Studies inspire students as they advance their drawing and design skills, and develop innovative solutions and an understanding of visual language essential to their future creative careers.

As the SCAD undergraduate experience is anchored in foundation studies, you will join other dedicated faculty members in teaching a thoughtfully curated series of courses that offers students a studio foundation that builds the visual, conceptual, and creative abilities essential to their development as professionals. Specifically, you may teach design classes such as Color: Theory and Application, Creative Thinking Strategies, and Design III: Time. You may also lead drawing classes that include traditional observation approaches, such as Digital Drawing, Drawing for Storyboarding, and Life Drawing.

Using your expertise in art and design, you will also prepare students for major-specific disciplines where their achievements may be internationally recognized with honors such as a European Product Design Award, a Student Emmy Award, and more.

The successful candidate has a strong portfolio of professional work and the ability to teach design and drawing classes in a way that creates an active and engaging learning environment for students.

Through rotating exhibitions at SCAD museums and galleries and the university’s extensive permanent collection, you and your students will have exclusive access to objects of study at the SCAD Museum of Art in Savannah, SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta, and the university’s numerous galleries. Enriching signature events invite visiting artists from across the globe to engage in creative discourse. Recent guest artists have included Carlos Cruz-Diez, Alfredo Jaar, Carrie Mae Weems, Hank Willis Thomas, Dustin Yellin, and Omar Victor Diop, to name a few. This global network of museums, galleries, signature events, and more provides unparalleled opportunities for students and faculty alike to explore the emergence of innovative forms of visual expression.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Terminal degree (or equivalent) in the discipline or in a relevant field.
- Academic and professional credentials to teach in a certain discipline.
- Teaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.
- Experience in or knowledge of related professions.
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite

Preferred Qualification: University teaching experience

Certificates, licenses, and registrations: Ability to be credentialed through SACS guidelines or justified to teach
