Summary

The Director serves as the primary liaison between TRIO College Programs and University administrators, and is responsible for administration, supervision, budgetary oversight, and day to day operations of Student Support Services and Ronald E. McNair Scholars Programs. The Director ensures compliance with all grant guidelines and objectives in accordance with the US Department of Education federal policies and aligns TRIO College Programs with University strategic planning and Divisional goals. The Director also builds and maintains relationships with members of the BGSU Community (Faculty, Staff, and Students) and other regional Universities and TRIO Programs.

Essential Functions

Administration:
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of and compliance to all US Department of Education and federal legislation and regulations that govern TRIO Programs
  • Ensure timely submission of all grant obligations, federal and BGSU related, including APRs
  • Perform research, data collection, and assessment on the impact of TRIO Programs as appropriate
  • Provide support for grant renewal efforts
  • Manage and monitor all fiscal matters and financial records
  • Generate and share monthly reports on overall activities of all College Programs, ensuring alignment with Federal grant objectives and BGSU Strategic Initiatives
  • Conduct an annual review of all TRIO College Programs
  • Build and maintain relationships with campus constituents related to successful implementation of College Programs
Supervision:
  • Provide leadership for, recruit, support, train, and evaluate all College Program staff, including full-time, part-time, and summer staff
  • Oversee the work of direct and indirect reports
  • Monitor and approve time reporting
Community Engagement/Collaboration:
  • Represent TRIO College Programs campus wide, particularly regarding student access, retention, and inclusion initiatives
  • Represent TRIO College Programs at local, state, regional, and national programs and events as appropriate
Advising:
  • Maintain a load of SSS student advisees when necessary
  • Assist with McNair Scholars when necessary
Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

The following Degree is required:
  • Master's Degree. Degree must be conferred at time of application
The following Experience is required:
  • 3 years experience with TRIO or similar programs
  • 2 years of administrative experience
  • 2 years supervisory experience
  • 1 year working with college student populations

The following Experience is preferred:
  • Budgetary experience
  • Experience working with students in higher education
  • Grant writing and/or administration experience


Additional Information

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures, practices and activities of Federal Programs such as TRIO or similar programs.
  • Demonstrated working knowledge in servicing students from diverse backgrounds, particularly working with low-income, first-generation and students from marginalized populations.
  • Familiarity with graduate school admissions processes and standards.
  • Knowledge of program design, delivery, assessment and evaluation.
  • Knowledge of database management
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Active listening skills
  • Strong organization skills
  • Knowledge of computer applications including but not limited to: Microsoft Office, Microsoft outlook, people Soft, FMS and WRL finance systems, Blumen database, and an ability to learn and adopt to other technologies necessary for program effectiveness.
