Assistant Professor (Coastal Fisheries Management and Policy)

We seek a candidate who will expand the expertise of our department and integrate undergraduate and graduate education with cutting-edge research that serves the needs of the people of Hawaiʻi and the Pacific Island region. The successful candidate will have research expertise in stock assessment, decision science and/or risk analysis with a specific focus on policy analysis and management for coastal fisheries, which can be construed broadly to include targeted, invasive, and/or threatened fish populations and other environmental challenges of federal, state, and community resource managers. The research program developed by the successful candidate will emphasize decision-making, quantitative modeling to evaluate consequences and trade-offs of potential management actions, and/or stock assessment with the aim of generating results with clear and tangible benefits to resource management agencies. The successful candidate will have excellent teaching and mentoring skills that enrich the department’s undergraduate and graduate degree programs course offerings. The candidate should also have a strong desire to collaborate across the University of Hawai‘i System to build and grow a world-class fisheries science graduate program.
