Key priorities of the enhancement plan for Student Affairs include:

  • Developing a Residential Campus Plan inclusive of a premier residential education curriculum and facilities recommendations.
  • Developing and advancing the key elements of the University’s plan to support student health and wellness.
  • Developing and supporting a premier student affairs team committed to student development and success.
  • Identifying key strategic initiatives to inform the University’s campaign.
  • Continuing staff training, development and policy creation related to crisis intervention and support.
  • Ensuring that future planning aligns with Bucknell’s core values of student centeredness, collaboration, inclusive excellence and exemplary service.
  • Promoting an inclusive campus life environment for students to achieve personal and collective goals.
  • Generating opportunities to create dialogue and hear all students’ voices based on dignity and respect.

Toward this end, Bucknell invites nominations and applications for three critical positions within Student Affairs: the Associate Vice President and Fritz Family Dean of Students (AVPDOS), the Associate Dean of Students for Campus Activities and Programs (ADSCAPS) and the Assistant Dean for Housing & Residence Life (ADHRL).

Established in 1846 as the University at Lewisburg, Bucknell is supported by over 1,200 full-time employees (roughly 400 faculty and nearly 900 staff) and has a dedicated network of more than 57,000 alumni. 3,846 undergraduates and 46 graduate students, representing most U.S. states and 57 countries, are enrolled across Bucknell’s three colleges: the College of Arts & Sciences, the College of Engineering and the Kenneth W. Freeman College of Management. For fiscal year 2023-24, Bucknell has an operating budget of $273 million and an endowment that surpassed $1 billion for the first time in fiscal year 2021. THE ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT AND FRITZ FAMILY DEAN OF STUDENTS (AVPDOS)
Reporting to the Vice President for Student Enrollment, Engagement & Success, the AVPDOS is responsible for providing and advancing the strategic vision, direction, leadership and oversight for Student Affairs to include all student programs and engagement services. The AVPDOS oversees a comprehensive umbrella of student life services, including housing and residence life, student conduct and conflict resolution, campus life, fraternity and sorority life, interpersonal violence and prevention, behavior intervention team, counseling center, health center, new student orientation and health promotion. The AVPDOS will be an engaged, visible and highly accessible campus citizen, leading initiatives and advocating for student success and well-being across all areas of curricular and co-curricular life. This leader will partner with stakeholders across the Bucknell community, both internal and external, including students, parents and families, faculty, staff, senior leadership, donors and friends and Lewisburg community members.

Terminal degree in a related field and minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership responsibilities in student affairs in a higher education setting is required. This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Pennsylvania. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. THE ASSOCIATE DEAN OF STUDENTS FOR CAMPUS ACTIVITIES AND PROGRAMS (ADSCAPS)
Reporting to the Associate Vice President and Fritz Family Dean of Students (AVPDOS), the ADSCAPS will provide leadership, management and supervision for a professional team of eight within the department of Campus Activities and Programs (CAPS). They will also serve as a member of the AVPDOS leadership team and participate in establishing divisional goals in accordance with the strategic plan. The ADSCAPS oversees the breadth of campus activities and programs, including Outdoor Education and Leadership, Clubs and Organizations, Bucknell Student Government, Student Media, MakerSpace, late night programming and large-scale events. The ADSCAPS will serve as the Senior Adviser to the Bucknell Student Government (BSG) and will advise the BSG Executive Board and Congress and various committees, ensuring compliance with the constitution, by-laws and University policy. The ADSCAPS will serve as advisor to the senior and junior classes to create connective programming opportunities and traditions, including but not limited to: commencement speaker selection, Senior Sunset, Senior Night, Senior Tribute and Unity events. The ADSCAPS will serve as chair for divisional committees such as Student Summit Experience, Professional Development Committee and Programming Calendar Committee. In addition, the ADSCAPS will serve as an Administrative Hearing Officer for students and student groups who have violated the Student Code of Conduct.

A Master's degree in higher education, college student personnel, student affairs or a related field and seven years of progressively responsible administrative experience in two or more of the areas this position supervises is required. This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Pennsylvania. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. THE ASSISTANT DEAN FOR HOUSING & RESIDENCE LIFE (ADHRL)
Reporting to the Associate Dean of Living, Learning & Leadership, the Assistant Dean for Housing & Residence Life will play a key role within Residence Life to help overcome current challenges, achieve strategic initiatives and bring the residential aspirations of the University's Strategic Plan to successful fruition. The ADHRL will lead, guide and coach full-time Residence Life Community Directors, who will in turn support our student staff. The ADHRL also has programmatic responsibility for working with faculty and academic engagement, particularly those working with our Residential Colleges program. One of the key roles of the Assistant Dean for Housing & Residence Life will be to foster a sense of community among residents through social and educational engagement opportunities. They will also work to resolve conflicts, provide resources to students and enforce policies that maintain a positive living environment. Additionally, they will collaborate with other campus departments to ensure that the needs of all residents are being met. The ADHRL will assume the management of Residence Life and Housing operations, and collaborate with leaders responsible for the first-year experience and residential academic programs. Additionally, they will manage and oversee all aspects of residential living for students, including safety and security concerns, staffing needs, development and implementation of procedures related to on-call response, student conduct and discipline, with guidance from the Assistant Dean of Students.

A master’s degree in Student Affairs Administration, Higher Education Administration or a related field and seven years of progressive professional experience in housing and residence life, including experience supervising residence life staff is required. This is a full-time position that will be performed on site in Pennsylvania. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. The salary range for this full-time, exempt role is $80,000 to $100,000 with a generous benefitspackage. This position will not sponsor applicants for work visas.
