Director of Finance

As the director of finance, you will manage SCAD's financial planning and analysis (FP&A) function while leading a team of talented individuals to safeguard the university's financial resources. You will lead the annual budgeting process, ensure proper resource allocation across the university, generate all financial reporting, develop and recommend strategies to grow SCAD's financial resources, and directly support the CFO. Your responsibilities will include leading the planning portion of the business office; preparing the annual operating, capital expenditure, and personnel budget; and preparing seasonal forecasts for the chief financial officer to be presented to the Board of Trustees.

In the role of director of finance, you will be expected to provide recommendations on strategy implementations to grow the university’s financial resources, generate reports for senior management as requested, and analyze financial trends and drivers, providing summarized conclusions for board presentations. Responsibilities include interpreting financial and operational performance to identify risks and opportunities, influencing business partners through various professional means, and developing and delivering presentations to senior management and cross-functional groups. You must additionally be able to leverage the operational and financial knowledge from the financial planning and analysis portion of the role to identify areas to procure more strategically and efficiently.

The ideal candidate should have an entrepreneurial spirit with strong analytical, decision-making, project management, planning, and organizational skills. They must have a creative thinking mindset and strong leadership skills. Leading the finance team will require providing insight and guidance to support SCAD's strategic priorities and financial decisions.

Minimum Qualifications:    
  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple requests and projects
  • At least five years of finance and business experience
  • Superior leadership skills with enthusiasm, initiative and a passion for results
  • Outstanding communication and relationship-building aptitude, with a team-oriented focus
  • Ability to communicate with senior level leaders daily

Travel Required:
  • 10% to 20%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
