ASSOCIATE VICE PRESIDENT AND EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION

Iowa City, Iowa

The University of Iowa (UI), a comprehensive research university, seeks a dynamic and creative leader to serve as its Associate Vice President and Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (AVP-DEI). The AVP-DEI will join the institution at a transformative time. Under the leadership of President Bruce Harreld, the University has included diversity, equity, and inclusion in its most recent strategic plan and is making a significant commitment to shifting the paradigm on our campus from one focused on diversity exclusively to one encompassing diversity, equity, and inclusion. The AVP-DEI will play a key role in setting an ambitious vision and strategy for the institution’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts and in working with a range of committed and energized on- and off-campus partners to realize the University’s goals.

Reporting to the Provost and President, the next AVP-DEI will lead campus-wide efforts to develop a vision and strategy that advances diversity, equity, and inclusion at UI. The AVP-DEI will work with other campus leaders, faculty, staff, and students to identify and pursue opportunities to create and enhance diversity, equity, and inclusion within each division and foster a campus climate in which all community members are respected, valued, and supported.

While not solely accountable for all diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts on campus, the AVP-DEI plays a critical role in developing networks across campus that link the significant diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives that are underway at UI.  The AVP-DEI advances diversity, equity, and inclusion issues as key institutional priorities and in coordinating and empowering the work of students, faculty, staff, and colleagues across campus and beyond.

Required Qualifications

• Master’s degree or equivalent combination of education and experience, terminal degree desirable;

• Demonstrated experience leading diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts in complex organizations, preferably within higher education or related institutions.
