STEM Librarian
The Claremont Colleges Services (TCCS) is the central coordinating and support organization for a highly regarded cluster of seven independent colleges known as The Claremont Colleges. TCCS, with about 300 staff members, provides exceptional shared services to 9,000 students, and almost 3,600 faculty and staff. TCCS staff work in both student-facing services as well as administrative and operational services. Our numerous departments are located throughout The Claremont Colleges campus in the beautiful city of Claremont, California.
ABOUT THE POSITION:
The STEM Librarian is a teaching librarian with subject responsibilities for STEM disciplines taught across The Claremont Colleges, a consortium of five undergraduate liberal arts colleges and two graduate universities. The library supports traditional STEM disciplines, such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Math, and Engineering; interdisciplinary programs like Environmental Analysis and Data Science; and professional graduate programs, including Public Health. Relevant subject areas will be assigned depending on the background and interests of the successful candidate, as well as the needs of the organization.
The incumbent will teach discipline specific information literacy instruction; conduct strategic and departmental targeted outreach; provide general and specialized research consultations; and conduct collection development. The STEM Librarian will participate on various library, college, and intercollegiate committees. This position reports to the Head of Research Services and is part of the Research, Teaching, and User Services division.

Work Schedule : The regular hours for this full-time position are 40 hours scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday for 12 months annually. May be required to work holiday, weekend, and/or evening hours. Regular hours may vary due to the needs of the organization or business unit. This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule to work partial hours remotely as approved by the supervisor.
Union: This position is represented by The Claremont Colleges Services Library Staff Federation AFT Local 6735. The employee in this position will be bound by the collective bargaining agreement.
COMPENSATION
Pay : The pay rate for this position is competitive and commensurate with the duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required for the position, between $5,666.67 - $6,083.33 per month.

Teaching, Outreach, and Research Services
- Gains a deep understanding of STEM programs and classes, conducts targeted and strategic outreach to fully integrate information literacy across STEM curricula, including information literacy instruction (ILI)
- Develops collaborative relationships with library staff, faculty, and students to support the research, teaching, and learning of STEM communities across The Claremont Colleges.
- Continuously works to improve teaching abilities by assessing student learning during instruction sessions, participating in pedagogical professional development at the colleges and within the profession, and participating in the library's peer teaching observation program.
- Collaboratively and strategically integrates scholarly communication and data literacies into ILI.
- Becomes familiar with the research data lifecycle and discipline specific data resources and repositories.
- Develops and maintains online disciplinary materials, including research guides, resource lists, and instructional content.
- Provides online and in-person research support to students and faculty in STEM fields, and general research support as needed (both online and in person)
- Contributes, as needed, to teaching interdisciplinary ILI in our well-established first-year program.
Collection Development & Discovery
- Develops online, print, and multi-format collections that reflect the short- and long-term research, teaching, and learning needs of The Claremont Colleges STEM communities.
- Communicates with disciplinary faculty to address content and format needs.
Library and Professional Service
- Participates in library-wide planning and assessment projects through service on committees, task forces, and special projects.
- Actively engages in networking and professional development through national/regional/local organizations through committee work, office-holding, presentations, and publications.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Training :
- MLIS from an ALA accredited program at the time of appointment, or equivalent education and experience.
Experience :
- None Required.

- Familiarity with the evolving nature of scholarly communications in STEM disciplines.
- Awareness of collection development trends in libraries and familiarity with managing and developing multi-format library collections

- Strong interpersonal skills, especially the ability to work collaboratively as a team player.
- Effective planning, organizational, and time management skills , including capacity for working independently to set priorities.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Undergraduate or graduate work in a STEM discipline.
- Experience supporting STEM subjects in an academic library.
- Familiarity with specialized library software, applications, and platforms, such as Worldcat Discovery or Springshare.
