The Stetson University School of Music seeks a visionary leader to guide an artistic community of dedicated faculty, staff, students, and concertgoers in advancing our mission of fostering a broad educational experience and enhancing the positive impact of music making in our world.

Position: The dean of the School of Music serves as an advocate, leader, and effective spokesperson for the School and University and is a key member of the Provost's leadership team. The dean will work with faculty to advance a progressive academic plan for the School that enhances student learning effectiveness, faculty creative activity, and the School's national and international reputation.  The successful candidate will participate in advancing the academic priorities of Stetson University through the work of the school and in collaboration with other University schools, colleges, and departments.  The dean will work closely with University leaders in enrollment management, marketing, and development to meet the recruiting, promotional, and relational goals of the School of Music.

Qualifications: The School of Music will hire a dean who can demonstrate significant successful leadership experience, a commitment to Stetson’s mission and values, familiarity with many aspects of music learning, an appreciation for both academic and artistic musical education, and the ability to cultivate productive relationships in support of the school’s strategic priorities.  Applicants should hold the academic credentials and standing required for tenure at Stetson University and the rank of professor in the School of Music.  Preference is given to candidates with a terminal degree in a music field, though commensurate professional experience in music will be considered.  The successful candidate will be active in and connected to the work of regional and national music associations.

Stetson University and the School of Music: Stetson’s School of Music is one of the premier undergraduate-only music schools in the country.  At Stetson, the art of teaching is practiced through programs grounded in a tradition of liberal learning that stimulates critical thinking, imaginative inquiry, and creative expression.
