Chief Diversity Officer

SUNY Geneseo seeks an experienced, visionary, and innovative leader to serve as Chief Diversity Officer (CDO) and a steward of the College’s vision to become the nation’s first equity-centered public honors college. Reporting directly to President Denise A. Battles and serving on her Cabinet, the CDO will join the College during a time of transformational change as the SUNY Geneseo community continues to implement its Strategic Plan, which centers equity, advances access, and embraces innovation. A highly collaborative leader, the CDO will directly oversee a talented team of four and will be a visible and accessible thought-partner and subject matter expert across the College. The CDO will also engage with the SUNY System-wide network of chief diversity officers to ensure institutional alignment with system initiatives.

SUNY Geneseo is consistently ranked among the best public undergraduate institutions in the country. The campus of 3,900 students is located in the historic village of Geneseo in the beautiful Finger Lakes region of western New York, 30 minutes from Rochester, on land that originally belonged to the peoples who are now the Seneca Nation of Indians and the Tonawanda Seneca Nation. The 152-year-old institution is renowned for achieving remarkable results—even when facing challenges. The College has a recently updated curriculum emphasizing diversity, pluralism, antiracism, global awareness, sustainability, and integrative learning, and major renovations are underway to infrastructure and multiple core campus buildings.

SUNY Geneseo is proud to be part of the State University of New York System, which has a strong and unwavering commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, with DEIB being one of four pillars established by SUNY Chancellor John B. King, Jr. and the SUNY Board of Trustees. The System operates under a 25-Point Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion Action Plan.

The CDO will have an earned graduate degree (master’s, JD, PhD, EdD, etc.) as well as at least five years of progressively responsible administrative experience with management in designing, delivering, evaluating, and/or leading activities, programs and services related to institutional diversity, equity, inclusion, and/or social justice. The successful CDO candidate will also have deep knowledge of current and developing law, regulations, policies, and guidelines for Title IX, Affirmative Action/EEO, and/or ADA.

This is a full-time position, located in New York. The compensation will be commensurate with experience with a generous benefits package.

The review of candidates will begin immediately and continue until the position is filled. Nominations and applications for the Chief Diversity Officer are welcomed as soon as possible. Applications should include a complete résumé or vita, a letter of interest, and a list of five professional references. All application materials will be considered in full confidence.
