The associate chair of animation will be responsible for leading a high performing team of faculty and staff in fulfilling the mission, vision, and values of the university in part by consulting with other leaders within the department as well as the school leadership. The associate chair shares responsibility for providing a positive environment based on SCAD Values and demonstrate respect and collegiality by frequently communicating goals. This position will ensure the implementation of teaching expectations as outlined in the Faculty Handbook through leading by example and taking active participation in curriculum-development efforts.
The person in this position must be able to coordinate the use of department resources, perform faculty evaluations, support hiring services, and the admission department to recruit students. Collaborating with multiple departments at any given time is possible; the ideal candidate must be able to manage multiple efforts and act as a liaison among all involved parties. The associate chair is in charge of submitting student work for showcases, preparing quarterly reports including those pertaining to purchases, monitoring department data, forging new partnerships, teaching classes, and resolving issues as necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in the discipline or a relevant field
- Leadership and supervisory experience in academics or significant professional experience in an appropriate discipline
- Distinguished record of scholarship, teaching, and/or professional expertise
- Successful career as a faculty member or discipline professional
- Leadership ability to transform strategic vision into implementation
- A commitment to teaching and learning
- Thorough understanding of curriculum development and utilization of assessment
- Ability to conduct thorough evaluations
- Ability to identify needs of the department
- Strong critical thinking skills
- Willingness to collaborate
- Excellent organizational skills
