Professor, Production Design (Set Design)

As the professor, you will use your design expertise and professional knowledge to be an integral part of a collaborative faculty team that prepares the next generation of production designers through curricular offerings that mirror professional production practices. In this position you will be required to plan and prepare lessons, maintain an active and engaged classroom environment, and provide feedback to students to aid in their academic progress. You will be responsible for syllabus design, submission, and approval; holding office hours and conducting midterm grade reviews; providing extra-help sessions, extended-learning opportunities, and field trips; and conducting course and program-level assessments.

The position entails modeling professionalism, fulfilling grading and academic documentation requirements, recording attendance, following academic policies and regulations, and supporting academic assessment and institutional effectiveness efforts. Other responsibilities include attending on-ground and virtual events such as faculty meetings and admission events; curriculum assessment and development; institutional effectiveness and accreditation support; and any other events, exhibitions, or publicity assignments.

Minimum Qualifications:   
  • Terminal degree or equivalent in production design or related field
  • Academic and professional credentials to teach in the field
  • Experience in or knowledge of related professions
  • Professional experience as a production designer or art director, preferably in film and television with a portfolio of professional work
  • Proficiency in professional visualization techniques and methods with evidence of digital design knowledge

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Teaching experience at the collegiate level
  • Experience with themed attractions and immersive experiences
  • Skills and experience with scale model-making
  • Some experience with theatrical design preferred

Travel Required:
  • Less than 10%

Work Hours: The university work week is Sunday through Saturday. Most offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. To accommodate business needs, employees may be assigned to other workdays and/or hours, including weekends and evenings.
